All humans have an innate desire to belong. When we have strong attachment figures in our lives at some point or another, we attach to that person’s ideals and values which creates a sense of belonging. This helps us to overcome difficult and trying times. Schools have a pivotal role to play in creating an environment where children belong. It’s necessary for schools to inspire a tribe of includers to promote a sense of belonging and create strong attachments, especially towards educators. An inclusivity-culture suggests that inclusion becomes a natural choice. This promotes values such as kindness, compassion and empathy.
